Boat
Open Flash and create a new project.
1. Using the rectangle tool, draw a blue box with no outline 2 inchs tall, the width of the stage. This is going to be the water.
2. Rename this layer water. Using the circle tool, draw an egg, filled with yellow with no outline .5 inch tall, 1 inch wide.
3. Using the move tool (black arrow) select the egg and place it on the top of the water box, starting in the left hand corner.
4. Deselect the egg. Reselect the egg and move it to the right. You should see that the egg cut out some of the water like a cookie cutter. You will line up the egg next to the cut out to create peaks to represent waves.
5. Continue to move the egg and select, and deselect the egg until you create the waves all across the stage.
6. Lock the water layer.
7. Insert a new layer and rename it boat.
8. On the boat layer, use the rectangle tool to create the body of the boat. Choose a color for the boat, and select no outline. Draw a rectangle for the boat.
9. Using the move tool, hover over the lower right hand corner of the rectangle. You should see a backwards L. Move that shape to the left to create an angle.
10. Using the move tool, hover over the middle top of the rectangle to get the bend option, and pull down to add a curve to the top of the boat. You can do the same thing to add a curve to the back of the boat.
11. Using the rectangle tool, select the same color that you used for the boat with no outline, and draw a thin rectangle from the bottom of the boat up to create the mast.
12. Use the rectangle tool to create the sail. Draw a rectangle, fill it with a different color no outline. Use the move tool and hover over the top right hand corner of the rectangle. You should see a backwards L. Move that shape to the left to create a triangle. Using the move tool, hover over the middle top of the triangle to get the bend option, and pull up to add a curve to the top of the sail. Using the move tool, hover over the left edge of the triangle to get the bend option, and pull to the right to add a curve to the side of the sail.
13. Move the sail over the mast.
14. Insert a new layer and rename the layer Sky.
15. Using the rectangle tool, draw a blue rectangle no outline, the size of the stage. Lock this layer.
16. Stack your layers in the following order. Sky on the bottom, boat in the middle, water on top.
17. Create a 100 frame animation. You can float the boat across the screen, and when you get to the end use modify or transform to flip the boat horizontally.
18. Other ideas: You can copy the boat and have a race. You can add people and create a pirate ship. You can have a boat battle, with cannons and fire, NO BLOOD. You can sink a ship with a missile, or shark or sea monster. Use your creativity, while watching your violence level.
19. You will be graded on creativity, craftsmanship, and quality of movement in your animation.
